• Zinc acetate can also be used to treat zinc deficiencies. As an oral daily supplement it is used to inhibit the body''''s absorption of copper as part of the treatment. Zinc acetate is also sold as an astringent in the form of an ointment, a topical lotion for the topical treatment of acne. It is commonly sold as a topical anti-itch ointment.
• In chewing gum, zinc acetate is a breath freshener and plaque inhibitor.

Magnesium acetate anhydrous Mg(C₂H₃O₂)₂ and Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate, has the chemical formula Mg(CH₃COO)₂ • 4H₂O. Magnesium acetate is the magnesium salt of acetic acid. It is deliquescent and upon heating, it decomposes to form magnesium oxide. 

Magnesium acetate appears as white hygroscopic crystals. It smells like acetic acid and is soluble in water. When it is in an aqueous solution its pH will be on the alkaline side of neutral.

Due to the fact that it is very hygroscopic, it must be stored away from water. It is also incompatible with strong oxidizers and should not be mixed with them.
